Research Festival 2024 will include over 20 events and activities held around Canberra and on campus across the month of November.
Explore current research projects and hear from leading and up-and-coming UC researchers and experts from the AIS Female Performance & Health Initiative about the value of investing in research surrounding women in sport – and how we’re levelling the playing field.

Join us for a family day out to explore the range of community and environmental initiatives backed by UC research undertaken at Ginninderry. Activities will include Ginninderry’s own kite festival, play-based education activities and more.
Saturday 2 November, 10AM – 2PM

Explore some of the UC research that has impacted the lives of Canberrans at the Life of a CBRn pop-up exhibition in the Canberra Centre – from analysing the safety of waterbirths to redefining aged care nursing for a new generation. Look out for an exciting range of activities and sessions at the pop-up across the month.

How can we improve the quality of political conversations in Australia? How can the voices of diverse and marginalised communities be amplified? Our panel of speakers will unpack the reasons behind the state of deliberation in Australia, and invite the audience to reflect on new ways of living together based on justice and mutual respect.

Join us for a community-focused showcase, panel discussion and Q&A about UC’s role in the future of our region and how our research is contributing to a better future, including reintroducing a frog species to Canberra, working with local runners to prevent injuries, training our future teachers and tackling the loneliness epidemic in our communities.

This full-day event will include lectures, presentations, performances and conversations from academic experts addressing the boredom and loneliness associated with social media platforms, while exploring possible ways to escape the grip of doom scrolling through art, media activism and more. Hosted in collaboration by UC's Centre for Creative and Cultural Research, Centre for Deliberative Democracy and Global Governance, and News and Media Research Centre with the Institute of Network Cultures (Amsterdam).

Cities Need Artists Need Cities is an 'in conversation' on the practical challenges of Canberra as a site for practising artists with Alison Alder, Ketura Budd, Hannah de Feyter, and Kevin Miller. Is it possible to sustain an art practice in Canberra? What could and should be done to make living and working as an artist in Canberra more viable? Hear from local artists and contribute to conversations that will help inform future policy on how artists and art practices can better survive and thrive in Canberra.

Mental health harm Prevention Showcase
The 91Porn is committed to advancing mental health harm prevention for young people in the Canberra region and beyond. This showcase focuses on addressing the unique mental health challenges faced by young individuals, using evidence-based strategies alongside community collaboration. Key components will include research, technology and innovation; community engagement; education and awareness; and policy and advocacy.
