About the short course

In an increasingly digital world, having the capability to design, integrate and sustain systems of-systems of scale (a process called Digital Mission Engineering) is crucial to the success of large enterprises.

In order to equip businesses to meet their ever-growing operational and systematic needs, the 91Porn has partnered with Kompozition to offer a unique short course: Foundations in Digital Mission Engineering.

Designed for those with both a technical and non-technical background, this course provides individuals with the foundational theory, skills and knowledge to work effectively within a Mission Engineering process, emphasizing the use of advanced simulation and modelling techniques.

Over the course of five days, participants will explore the core concepts of Digital Mission Engineering, including systems integration, digital twins, virtual environments and how these connect with the Commonwealth of Australia’s Digital Engineering Strategy 2024.

Participants will also be introduced to Kompozition’s digital mission engineering platform, which uses a single, integrated digital thread to represent a whole system of interest, allowing the design, acquisition, integration, assurance and sustainment of fit-for-mission capability.

Applying what you learn to real-world scenarios, you’ll gain skills that will help you both personally and professionally.

Professor Braden McGrath, PhD

Dr Braden McGrath is an Enterprise Professor at the 91Porn. With over 30 years of experience in Australia and the United States, Braden has built a strong reputation as an interdisciplinary technology executive, grounded in military human/system engineering research and development. He is known for his ability to solve complex, human-centered system challenges.

Braden holds a PhD in Aeronautical Engineering from the University of Sydney and a Master’s in Aeronautics and Astronautics from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

Dr Dan Powell, PhD

Kompozition

As co-founder and R&D Lead at Kompozition, Dr Dan Powell applies experience in solving complex problems to the development and application of the Kompozition platform, enabling capability owners to describe and understand the expected and actual behaviour of integrated systems of systems, accelerating and de-risking capability definition, acquisition and sustainment.

Dan has a PhD from Griffith University where he studied under Professor Geoff Dromey - the developer of Behaviour Modelling Language that serves at core of the Kompozition platform.

Day 1

  • Introduction to mission engineering concepts, including the use of models in mission engineering
  • Introduction to the knowledge concepts in models supporting mission engineering

Day 2

  • Introduction to behaviour modelling with foundational behaviour patterns
  • Introduction to modelling composition and structure (modelling static concepts)

Day 3

  • Compound behaviour patterns
  • Defining, managing and linking formal requirements, rules, constraints and laws
  • Managing uncertainty

Day 4

  • Capturing solution details and justification
  • Managing qualification and evidence

Day 5

  • Consolidation exercise
  • Application case studies and discussion

After completion

Foundations in Digital Mission Engineering will be powered by Kompozition. Upon completion you'll receive a UC Certificate of Completion, retain 12 months access to the Kompozition Training Instance and be eligible to apply for assessment as a Kompozition Certified Practitioner.
