About the seminar

To understand what identity means in our world today, we need to study the ways in which identities come to matter and operate as the site of political demands. As such, we need engage with the much-demonized term ‘identity politics’ as well as to interrogate a range of scholarly approaches to theorising identity.

Drawing on the work of scholars like Charles Taylor, Stuart Hall and Kwame Anthony Appiah this lecture explores identity as it relates to a range of diverse global experiences, with a specific focus on race, national identity, and gendered and sexual identities.
