Supported by - your campus life and student experience specialists - clubs and societies are just one way UC makes your uni experience one to remember.
With an enormous range of groups to choose from, from general interest to specific courses, you’re sure to find the right fit for you. Some may have a membership fee, while others are completely free and rely on volunteers. Once you’ve joined a club or society, you can expect regular catch-ups, exclusive events and activities, and opportunities to volunteer, meet new people and network.
For example, if you become a member of a sports society or join , there may be training, games and competitions to attend. With cultural clubs, you can expect celebrations, like the ’s new year’s events, or the ’s Diwali parties. With the , spend your time caring for UC’s beautiful community garden, while at you can enjoy trivia nights and movie screenings.
Don’t see a club or society for you? There are certain requirements you will need to meet, but if you feel like your unique idea will be able to attract members, then why not undertake the exciting challenge of managing your own club?
There’s so much more to your experience as a UC student than just your classes! Getting involved in extracurricular activities, like clubs, societies and UCX events on campus is the perfect way to meet like-minded people, take a break from studying or to try something new.
After all, when you look back on your time as an international student, your fondest memories will likely be the times spent with new friends or when you challenged yourself to do something different.
Plus, the experiences you gain from your clubs and societies, particularly if you want to be on the committee and help run the group, can be a great addition to your resume.
Some groups, particularly those representing specific academic courses, such as the and the even offer networking opportunities, career events and seminars to help you engage with industry professionals and make a headstart on your career pathway.
One of the best places to get an idea of which clubs and societies are on offer at UC, and to chat to fellow members to see if it’s the right fit for you, is UC and UCC Orientation.
Both Orientation programs are your introduction to university and college life, designed to prepare you for success on your student journey. Plus, at Orientation, there will be chances to meet the members of UC clubs and societies and chat about what they offer. During the year, you’ll also hear about Join a Club Night through , where you can learn more about the groups around UC.
Plus, as an international student, there is a dedicated session called International Student Essentials, which focuses on your unique experiences at UC and how to navigate your new life in Canberra.
