Introduction

This unit provides a holistic assessment experience where students are required to integrate their learning experiences and outcomes from the clinical practicum units 8661, 9299 and 8663. The unit will provide a forum for students to showcase their current capabilities against the industry competency standards. Students are required to successfully demonstrate, using work-samples, reflections and multisource feedback, their fulfilment of the Dietitians Australia (DA) 2021 National Competency Standards for Dietitians in Australia.

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:

Submission of assessment items

Extensions & Late submissions

This is an ungraded pass unit and therefore marks can not be deducted for late submissions. In order to provide a fair assessment the panel requires adequate time to review each student's e-Portfolio Showcase prior to their panel interview. For this reason late submissions will not be accepted. The panel interviews are scheduled over the year dependent on each student's placement timetable. Students with extenuating circumstances can apply to attend a later interview, however, there is no guarantee that their application will be successful.

Special assessment requirements

This unit provides a holistic assessment for the practicum units 8661, 8663 and 9299. Following successful completion of this unit students will also receive 'ungraded pass' grades for these units.

This unit is a pre-requisite requirement to progress to the capstone unit 9301 Nutrition and Dietetics Internship. Our aim is to qualify, rather than disqualify students, to enter the dietetics profession. Any student who is identified to have not yet demonstrated the professional standards will be offered a supplementary assessment aligned with their learning needs.

Supplementary assessment

A 4 week supplementary placement will be offered to students who have not yet met the assessment requirements for this unit. This placement will be aligned with the student's learning needs and will be undertaken under the supervision of an accredited practising dietitian. Following this placement students will be provided with the opportunity to re-submit their e-Portfolio Showcase and to participate in a modified panel interview.

Academic integrity

Students must apply academic integrity in their learning and research activities at UC. This includes submitting authentic and original work for assessments and properly acknowledging any sources used.

Academic integrity involves the ethical, honest and responsible use, creation and sharing of information. It is critical to the quality of higher education. Our academic integrity values are honesty, trust, fairness, respect, responsibility and courage.

UC students have to complete the annually to learn about academic integrity and to understand the consequences of academic integrity breaches (or academic misconduct).

UC uses various strategies and systems, including detection software, to identify potential breaches of academic integrity. Suspected breaches may be investigated, and action can be taken when misconduct is found to have occurred.

Student responsibility

Learner engagement

This is an assessment unit, rather than a teaching and learning unit, that provides a holistic assessment of material covered over the three practicum units 8661, 8663 and 9299. This unit has a zero credit point unit allocation. The time required to prepare for this assessment unit has been allocated within the units stated above.

Participation requirements

All students will be invited to attend an full day workshop which is designed to provide content for the development of their e-Portfolio Showcase. Additional resouces to assist with this assessment unit are included on the unit's CANVAS site. Technical assistance will also be offered following the workshop.

It is a requirement of this unit that students attend a 20 minute panel interview. Students should plan to arrive 30 minutes before the interview and allow 30 minutes for the interview process.

There are additional participation requirements for students who complete a supplementary assessment. For details please refer to section 5b.

In-unit costs

There are no cost associated with this unit with the exception of those students who requirement a supplementary assessment.

Students who complete the supplementary assessment will be offered a 4 week placement at a health setting. These students must travel to placement sites and be accommodated at their own expense. Some sites, such as the Canberra Hospital require students to pay $20 cash as a deposit to obtain a compulsory ID card. This money is fully refunded on return of the ID on the last day of placement.

Work placement, internships or practicums

This is only relevant to students completing the supplementary assessment for this unit.

The supplementary assessment for this unit includes a 4 week supplementary placement in a health setting. Additional student responsibilities are required in addition to those described in section 6. Work-place learning requires strict adherence to professional practice principles and ethics. Client /patient confidentiality must always be maintained (as documented in the 91Porn Work Integrated Learning Guidelines and the Faculty of Health Professional Placement Information) including for assessment items such as reports or essays. Students are required to sign a Individual Student Agreement form that aligns with these requirements.
