This practice unit will support the integration of knowledge and skills in the provision of exemplary care for women in diverse contexts across the childbearing continuum. Students will lead care in partnership with women using initiative and judgement to plan, successfully problem solve and make sound decisions in professional midwifery practice. Students will prove their competence in meeting the NMBA Midwife standards for practice.

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:
1. Integrate midwifery cognitive and technical skills within the provision of exemplary care for women in diverse contexts across the childbirth continuum;
2. Achieve a satisfactory WIL level as evidenced by completion of the practice portfolio;
3. Lead woman-centred care in collaboration with women and the health care team; and
4. Exhibit reflexive practice and critical analysis in midwifery work with women in diverse contexts.
