In this unit, students will explore a variety of performing arts pedagogies. Students will investigate the principles and practices of the performing arts, including theories and research about music, dance and drama. They will apply that knowledge to early years learning settings, with consideration of the EYLF, diversity, and Indigenous and other cultural ways.

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:
1. Demonstrate knowledge of the principles and practices of the performing arts (Music, Dance and Drama) and how they apply to teaching young children;
2. Identify and evaluate local services, materials and resources that could support their teaching of the performing arts in early childhood education; and
3. Design and implement a performance event/learning experience for preschool children in an early childhood service, that aligns with the EYLF and embeds Indigenous or other cultural ways.
